With funding from County Monaghan Partnership under Community Based Youth Initiatives, Monaghan Youth Federation has been able to provide vital information to leaving certificate students and their parents as well as to mature students who are intending to progress to further and higher education in September 2008.
The Going to College Programme consists of a series of workshops that are delivered throughout the County. The Higher Education Grant Scheme Workshops include presentations from Monaghan County Council on completing the Grant Scheme Application Form, a presentation from Shauna Farrell, Partnership’s Education Coordinator on funding supports available to students from disadvantaged backgrounds and a presentation from Monaghan Credit Union on their scholarship fund. Other workshops include Study Skills Development and Techniques for Coping with Exam Pressure.
A Guide for Students on Going to College is also produced and distributed to all second level schools in the County or it can be obtained from any of the Youth Information Centres which are located in Monaghan town, Castleblayney and Carrickmacross. This leaflet is a really valuable resource as it includes information on applying to College through the CAO and UCAS, progression through further education courses, information on maintenance grants and other sources of funding for further and higher education.
Details of the dates/locations for the Higher Education Grant Scheme Workshops can be obtained by contacting Mary Connolly, Youth Information Coordinator on 042 97 51979.
