On the 1/1/08 Minister O’Cuiv announced €20M for an extra 800 jobs in 130- 200 new Community Services Projects nationally for 2008/9. The final details on the application process have just been announced, the application forms and expression of interest forms are available for download here and further information is available on www.pobal.ie/live/csp/880.html. County Monaghan Partnership and Cavan Monaghan Rural Development will jointly assess these applications, of which a maximum of six applications can be forwarded to Pobal. The purpose of the Community Services Programme is to support voluntary and community groups to provide essential services and businesses to their communities. The three strands under which community groups ca
n apply are as follows;
- Supervising Community Halls and Facilities; To enable community halls and facilities to open and run on a day to day basis, and be available for community use;
- Community Services; Delivering practical local services to disadvantaged groups and individuals e.g. the elderly, people with disabilities, recovering drug misusers, Travellers and other disadvantaged groups. The proposal should be for a practical local service which the private or public sector has been unable to provide. e.g. meals on wheels; and
- Community Enterprises; That provide employment for people most distant from the labour market, including Travellers, people with disabilities, ex-prisoners and recovering substance misusers. e.g. community shops.
CSP grants are typically awarded for a three year period. Funding is awarded as a contribution to a certain number of staff posts and to overheads, this programme does not provide 100% funding for any activity. Funded organizations must generate a proportion of their income from other sources. This income could be from trading, fees and other earned income, public sector contracts, grants and/or fund-raising sources.
