On 10th March 2007 Evelyn Holland, of the Debra Ireland Foundation supported by friends and volunteers from County Monaghan Volunteer Bureau, raised a whopping €1,313. The money was raised from a bag-pack in O’Gorman’s Supervalu, Carrickmacross.
Speaking after the event Evelyn said:
“I am truly delighted with the amount of money raised. This money will go a long way to help scientists research a cure for the skin condition Epidermolysis Bullosa. I would like to offer my sincere thanks to Emma in the Volunteer Bureau for providing me with 5 additional volunteers to support this fundraising initiative and also to O’Gorman’s Supervalu for making this possible.”

Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) is a distressing and painful genetic skin disorder causing skin layers and body linings to separate and blister at the slightest touch. Children born with EB have skin that is as fragile as the wings of a butterfly - and as easily damaged. EB is a rare condition affecting 1 in 18,000 newborn children in Ireland.
Emma Quinn of County Monaghan Volunteer Bureau had the following thoughts to add:
“When Evelyn contacted me looking for bag-packers I knew that volunteers in the Carrickmacross area would be delighted to get involved with this very worthwhile charity. I am very pleased to think that the Volunteer Bureau helped in raising a substantial amount of money which will make a real difference to people’s lives.”
County Monaghan Volunteer Bureau puts people who wish to volunteer in touch with groups which need volunteers. It aims to achieve a win win outcome for both parties, groups get the extra help they need and volunteers get the opportunity to provide this help and the satisfaction which flows from that.
