The conference, held in the Pearse Brothers GAA Centre in Ballybay on Thursday 18th September and titled “Rural Isolation in County Monaghan – Problems and Solutions”, can be viewed as a significant contribution to helping achieve progression on a subject which has been of concern to many for quite some time. This course will be held on Monday July 7th, 08, from 9am to 5pm at the Local Employment Service, 5 North Road, Monaghan. There are 10 places available. If you are interested in attending this course, please call 047 72191.
Course ContenT: Food Hygiene, Food Contamination, Food Delivery and Storage, Food Preparation, Cooking and Service, Personal Hygiene, Design, Layout of premises and pest control, Cleaning & Introduction to HACCP.
At the end of the course you will have to complete a 45 minute exam On successfully completion of the course you will receive Certificate issued by EHOA Environmental Health Officers Association. This course is based on the skills required to meet Food Standard Association Level 2 Guide to Food Safety Training.

STEPS is an extremely practical and positive programme which helps individuals to develop and realise their full potential. It encourages participants to look at their attitudes and beliefs and how they think about things.
The programme helps individuals move beyond where they have become stuck to more fulfilling and successful lives. The Programme is video based and runs over 6 mornings over a two week period.

County Monaghan Partnership is delighted to launch a Communications and Media Use training course that will take place in the Castleblayney Enterprise Centre on the Tuesday 13th and 20th May. The course is available to Community activists throughout the County to enable them improve their communication skills. The course should be of particular interest to PRO’s who act as the key link between their community group and local people.

On the 1/1/08 Minister O’Cuiv announced €20M for an extra 800 jobs in 130 - 200 new Community Services Projects nationally for 2008/9 and the final details on the application process have just been announced. The three strands under which community groups can apply are Supervising Community Halls and Facilities, Community Services and Facilities and Community Enterprises.

Monaghan County Council has launched their annual community development fund at the meeting of the county council on Monday April 7th 2008. This year sees a marked change in the way the fund is being rolled out. In 2007 the county council carried out an in depth review of the grants scheme and came up with a number of changes to make it easier for groups to access funding and to best meet the demand for which funding is being sought. €100,000 has been made available to all community groups and organisations in the county under three distinct measures . . . more details >>

Community Smoke Alarm Scheme Launched
Monaghan County Council has joined forces with Monaghan Community Forum in an effort to identify Co. Monaghan’s most vulnerable households and fit them with smoke alarms at no cost.

This year four groups are involved - two developed and two designated as developing. Over 300 schoolchildren from 3 Secondary Schools in Monaghan Town have recently completed an Anti-Racism Programme. In recent weeks students from St Macartan’s College, St Louis Convent and Monaghan Collegiate undertook the hugely successful training. The training was funded by the County Monaghan Partnership through its Education Coordinator Ms. Shauna Farrell.

Through the work of its’ Community Economic Development Officer Julie Clarke, Community Monaghan Partnership supported the start up of almost 40 new businesses during the past year. A key element of support is the Department of Social & Family Affairs Back to Work Enterprise Allowance Scheme which supports new businesses for their first four years in business this is also administered by Julie Clarke.

On 10th March 2007 Evelyn Holland, of the Debra Ireland Foundation supported by friends and volunteers from County Monaghan Volunteer Bureau, raised a whopping €1,313. The money was raised from a bag-pack in O’Gorman’s Supervalu, Carrickmacross.
